Cosmos Core Features

· Tendermint BFT Consensus: The Cosmos network uses the Tendermint Byzantine Fault Tolerance to ensure network security and maintain the network by validating transactions. Tendermint BFT is powered by a Proof-of-Stake governance mechanism regarded as “Tendermint Core,” which is used to maintain the nodes governing the Cosmos Hub.

Validator nodes on the Cosmos network must be among the top 100 ATOM stakers, and voting power is distributed proportionately to stake. Like a delegated PoS mechanism, Cosmos also allows other users to delegate their tokens to other Validator nodes to increase voting and reward strength.

Tendermint BFT is very scalable, as it enables Cosmos to handle up to 10,000 TPS even if one-third of the Validator nodes are offline/compromised.

· Cosmos Hub and Zones: The Cosmos Hub is a blockchain on the Cosmos network that interconnects all zones (individual blockchains) on the Cosmos network.

Each zone can independently validate transactions, create and distribute tokens, and even fork its own blockchain. Regardless of this Zonal independence, the Cosmos Hub interconnects all zones, facilitating interoperability among them using the Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC)

The Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol allows all zones connected to the Cosmos Hub to seamlessly and securely exchange data with one another, regardless of the differences in their blockchain structure.

· Cosmos SDK: Cosmos SDK allows developers to easily build custom independent blockchains using the Tendermint consensus algorithm. The SDK makes it possible to create a simple-to-use blockchain with essential features like staking, governance, tokens, and security; if they wish, the developers can add custom-made plug-ins to add more features. Furthermore, the Cosmos SDK makes it possible to test these beta modules on Cosmos before launching on their own mainnet and also allows the newly developed blockchains to benefit from Cosmos’ interoperability by using the IBC protocol.
