As a player or game creator, you have many people with similar interests. Whatever your interests are, others wish to connect with you and share ideas. For some of us, gaming goes beyond activity to pastime; it allows us to develop our creativity, connect with like minds, and build a career. Unfortunately, if you are not visible or known, you may never have the opportunity to associate with the right individual.
Many games are being made regularly, and no matter how well-versed you are in gaming, you've probably never heard of some of them. As a result, regardless of the level of game quality, most games fail to attract a sufficient audience to support their development.
These were my concerns while I created my blockchain-based games. First, I needed a community to help the game gain attention and adoption. But, more significantly, I needed a community of people that aren't simply traditional gamers but have similar ideas about switching to blockchain games.
The Era of Traditional Games
Being a developer, I understand the need for the transition to blockchain games. Since blockchain technology has grown exponentially, the gaming industry is not an exception to this growth. As a result, Play-2-Earn (P2E) games are one of the main ecosystems that have populated the gaming industry, particularly with several novel strategies targeted at simulating our everyday actions in an immersive virtual environment enabled by blockchain technology.
However, as a developer, I have experienced difficulties attracting attention to your work and an audience for your games. Although these games had outstanding reviews, they failed to grow in popularity since there was no supportive community for them.
The era of traditional games evolved from a single-player mode to an in-game multiplayer mode and to a massive multiplayer in tournaments, special competitions, and other game modes. Furthermore, as technology advanced, the game mode was transformed into a virtual format employing AR/VR technology.
Blockchain-based Games
So, since blockchain-based games allow players to earn real money while playing games and competing against other players, all that is needed is to create a game that will entice players while also providing them an opportunity to make money. But I don't want to make the same mistake of not having an audience for my game. Therefore I wanted a community where people are passionate about the project, discussing what additions they would like to see, and making other contributions to give the project the most publicity and public adoption possible.
Building A Gaming Community
Similar to how communities are developed for other blockchain-related projects, a blockchain game also needs a community where gamers or interested players can discuss, collaborate, and share insight and resources. I understand how important having a community is to the success of my project. Therefore, it became my priority to build a community of gamers who support gaming projects and talk about different ways to enhance the ecosystem by assessing their victories, failures, and community investments.
Without a doubt, I know that having a community is more than just bringing people together, and the project must coincide with the community's culture and beliefs in order to draw them to the game's objectives and vision. Therefore, after doing some research to identify my ideal target audience, I discovered Discord to be the only platform where I can communicate, share, and tell my project's story.
Utilizing Discord For Gaming Community
Discord is a gaming-focused communication network that allows you to simply voice chat, exchange images, and videos, and join channels with others. Using Discord to build my community is vital because it helps me collect feedback about participant preferences for things like character design, concept art, in-game merchandising, and other gaming features while the project is still in its early phases.
So, having decided that Discord was the best platform for my community, my major concern was;
- How can I entice people to participate in my community?
- What benefits do community members receive from joining?
- What could possibly attract anyone to stick around?
- How do I keep the community engaged?
With these inquiries in mind, I needed to establish an atmosphere where potential participants could feel at ease and learn all there was to know about the project without getting confused.
As a result, I created an 'about channel' that introduced the community to the project. The channel simplifies all aspects of the project so that new community members are not left in the dark about what to anticipate from the community. Furthermore, I provided links to other social platforms, project websites, and other essential pages where members may authenticate the project's integrity.
Optimizing The Community For Engagement
The core essence of establishing a community is to keep people involved. As a result, I needed to keep my community members engaged by beginning new conversations, participating in topics, and allowing everyone to feel welcome to contribute.
Interestingly, I was able to integrate additional apps to automate tasks within the community because Discord is an open-source platform and provides developers with API access. These apps handle the community's engagement process and respond quickly to any questions from members.
For example, to actively engage community members who might need additional guidance, I decided to set up server management and assign a group manager to engage community members and answer any inquiries and concerns. Furthermore, the group manager assists in welcoming new members, guiding them around the project, and explaining the project procedure, which may appear unclear to new members who might have just joined the community.
However, community participation is the only way to keep members involved and active, which will also help attract new members.
Therefore, I recognized the most effective technique to increase participation is through rewards, which make community members more invested in the project. As a result, I decided to set up an engagement and referral contest to reward the most active member within the community and the member with the highest invites. These created a healthy competition among community members, and in just two days of the contest, the community saw a meteoric increase.
To automate the contest and give community members equal participation, I used the Cwallet Discord bot and used its Discord Referral Program to handle the process. This encouraged healthy competition among members because they were recognized and rewarded based on the number of points they earned.
Cwallet also aided my community's growth by providing welcome bonuses to new members and their inviters to increase community involvement and create quick community expansion.
All I had to do was create an exclusive bot and invite it to my community server, and the bot would handle the rest of the activities based on my instructions. The Cwallet referral program was utilized with social media to expand community engagement by generating social media tasks that will engage existing members and attract new ones.
Furthermore, the Cwallet Bot lets me limit the number of rewards distributed. Interestingly, I don't have to manually select winners. All entries were automatically verified, and those not meeting the criteria were disqualified. All I had to do was set a few parameters, and the system would do the rest, saving me time and stress.
