If there’s anything I’ve learned from my short stint in Parenthood, it’s the level of inquisitiveness that kids possess, and honestly, I’d say that my boy, Charlie is a lot more curious than the average 8-year-old child. Watching videos and attending podcasts on childcare has made me realize that the innate ability of curiosity and inquisitiveness, which children possess from birth, helps them navigate their environment.

Many counselors and childcare experts often encourage us to ONLY do what we’d love to see our children emulate until they have a mind of their own because their curious nature will see them ask questions or even try to copy you, be it smoking, fighting, dancing, praying, as well as other virtues and vices.

What is Bitcoin?

This is the question that Charlie asked me a few months before his 8th birthday, and you’ll probably wonder why.

As a crypto trader and investor, I have a workstation in my apartment’s spare room, where I monitor charts and make analyses. Of course, Charlie always has something to ask or tell me, so he frequently comes running to my workstation, talking to me while curiously staring at the screens showing charts, most frequently Bitcoin. When he was much younger, he said, “Daddy has many TVs,” but I had to tell him that they are called monitors.

So, one day, looking at one of my screens, he asked, “Daddy, what is Bitcoin?”

I knew this day would come, but somehow, I couldn’t give a perfect answer that would satisfy his curiosity. I simply said, “Bitcoin is money.” Of course, as you would expect, more questions and objections followed.

“So, you have money in your computer?”

“How can you spend it?”

“…But you can’t hold it.”

“Do you need to take your computer to the grocery store?”

Many more questions followed, and I tried to break down the basics in the simplest way ever; trust me, that was the hardest thing I’ve had to do this year. So, to ease his curiosity, I promised to give him some Bitcoin as a birthday gift, and I’d show him how to spend it, and then he let me breathe a little.

Daddy, Where is My Bitcoin?

No one anticipates kids’ birthdays more than they do; of course, having a day with cakes, sweets, and many gifts is worth anticipating. So, after singing happy birthday to Charlie and blowing him a cake, he looked through all his presents and asked, “Daddy, where is my Bitcoin?”

I knew he wouldn’t forget, and I had planned to make the experience fun-filled and unforgettable for him, so I told him that I created a simple game for him where he would have to catch falling coins; the number of coins he caught would determine the amount of Bitcoin he’d have. This sounded like fun! It greatly appealed to little Charlie, and he was raring to go!

Catching Coins with Cwallet

Cwallet is one of the applications I use for my everyday crypto transactions, and given that it had an in-built airdrop game function, it was the perfect choice to gift Charlie some crypto.

I asked Charlie what he wanted to buy with his Bitcoin, and he decided to buy a bicycle, so I looked around for a store that accepted Bitcoin, so he could see that it was worth real money, just like the paper he held; so, we located a nearby store, made the purchase and paid around $189.99 in Bitcoin.

Little Charlie did his math on paper and saw that he still had about $60 left, so he asked about the balance, and I told him that he could keep them in his wallet for future spending. Finally, Charlie’s curiosity was largely satisfied!

As expected, Charlie told his friends in school about a Bitcoin game, and I can bet that their parents are left wondering what a Bitcoin game is
